Mary O’Donohue

Mary O’Donohue enjoys a successful career on both sides of the camera. Her behind the scenes television experience spans more than 30 years and includes literally thousands of hours of live control room experience, as well as an extensive background in taped programs in various formats including news, variety, and talk shows. She has worked as a Director, Field Director, Associate Director and Post Production Supervisor on news specials and programs such as The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, The McLaughlin Group, and Meet The Press. She has also been an Associate Director and Post Production Supervisor on concerts, variety programs, comedy specials, and awards shows including MTV Unplugged: Hootie and the Blowfish, Woodstock ’94, Mariah Carey at St. John the Divine, Mary Chapin Carpenter Live at Wolf Trap, the CBS Michael Jordan Retirement Party, The James Beard Awards, An Opryland Christmas, The Aspen Comedy Festival, and many more. Mary has worked on numerous daytime programs, most notably spending 12 seasons with The Oprah Winfrey Show as Control Room Associate Director and Post Production Producer. Mary’s on-camera journey began soon after she wrote, When You Say “Thank You,” Mean It, a practical month-by-month guide for raising children with extraordinary character (published by Adams Media). As a Best Selling Author, she’s been featured in a Parents Magazine, Green Child Magazine, Chicago Parent, and has been a regular contributor to The Chicago Tribune’s Parent ‘Hood column. Mary has appeared on television throughout the country, including the nationally syndicated, The Better Show, as well as on numerous radio programs. Her work has also been highlighted on several web sites including AOL’s ParentDish,, and among others. With more than three decades of expertise behind the scenes in media, at both the local and national level, and first hand experience of appearing in media as an author and expert, Mary not only talks the talk, she walks the walk. From the Control Room to the Green Room – she’s “been there, and taped that.” Utilizing her unique background both behind, and in-front of the camera, Mary has become a sought after Media Coach, equipping authors, experts, and entrepreneurs with practical skills to navigate the media landscape.
